SHIPPING AND STORAGE:
This product is shipped frozen on dry ice. Store at -70°C upon receipt. This product is intended for single use only. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles to ensure optimal performance.
Thaw at room temperature, centrifuge the vial for a few seconds to remove residual droplets from the lid, and immediately place on ice. Before use, gently mix by pipetting up and down a few times.

This preparation of EBV is a BIOHAZARDOUS material containing ACTIVE VIRUS and should be handled in accordance with biosafety guidelines defined in the BMBL, NIH-CDC HHS Publication No. (CDC) 21-1112.
What is the intended use for Quantitated Viral Load Controls? ABI’s Quantitated Viral Load Controls are intended for determining viral load in unknown samples and for use as a control to validate, monitor and troubleshoot nucleic acid extraction procedures.
What is the composition of Quantitated Viral Load Controls? This product contains purified, whole virus particles suspended in TNE with 0.1% Sodium Azide at a known concentration of 1.5 x 107 virus particles (vp)/mL.
How is the viral particle concentration determined? Virus particle concentration is determined by a proprietary procedure developed at ABI.
How are Quantitated Viral Load Controls used? ABI’s Quantitated Viral Load Control should be extracted and amplified alongside unknown samples.
Does ABI provide a DNA copy number for Quantitated Viral Load Controls after extraction and amplification? DNA copy number can vary depending on the diluent and extraction/ amplification method used. Therefore, ABI does not provide a DNA copy number for Quantitated Viral Load Controls after extraction and amplification. We provide a known concentration of virus particles suspended in a buffer appropriate for further dilution in a diluent of your choice, to help determine extraction efficiency of your procedure and/or viral load of your unknown samples.
Does ABI provide a conversion factor to the WHO (World Health Organization) International Standards? ABI does not provide a conversion factor to the WHO International Standard. The conversion factor to the International Units is specific to the extraction/ amplification method and the diluent used by the customer, and therefore, should be determined by the customer.
How are Quantitated Viral Load Controls supplied? Each vial contains 175 µL of Viral Load Control at 1.5 x 107 virus particles (vp)/mL.
What is the difference between ABI’s Quantitated PCR Controls and ABI’s Viral Load Controls? ABI’s Quantitated Viral PCR Controls contain purified DNA and are used for preparing standard curves for quantitative PCR assays. They are also intended to be used as a positive control in nucleic acid amplification reactions, in both standard and real time PCR.
ABI’s Quantitated Viral Load Controls contain purified, whole virus particles. They are intended to be used alongside unknown samples in DNA extraction and amplification procedures, for viral load determination of unknown samples and for use as a control to monitor and validate nucleic acid extraction procedures.
